The primary job responsibilities of the Retail Buyer are to develop and execute merchandising strategies that maximize sales, margin, inventory turnover, visual presentation and customer satisfaction. Drives initial implementation and daily execution for planning, analyzing, forecasting and distribution of The North Face merchandise while adhering to company and divisional strategies.
Owns the development of seasonal business strategies, product assortment, merchandise strategies, key item positioning, and promotional plans; ensuring that the assortment is compelling, commercially viable and supports overall business objectives
Maintains comprehensive oversight of all phases of managing the business: OTB, sales reporting, etc., and communicates findings and action steps.
Analyzes historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities.
Manages and communicates markdown & promotional recommendations and strategies.
Supports a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented environment with peers and cross-functional team.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with members of cross-functional team (merchandising, marketing, sourcing, planning, and operations).
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Possesses a clear understanding of financial measurements including: sales, gross margin, inventory productivity measures, etc. and how to impact them
Flexible and adaptive to changing priorities
Able to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
Demonstrates strong listening, written and oral communication skills
Demonstrates logical analysis and problem solving skills
Able to interpret current business results to identify key learnings and develop future strategies
Facility with personal computers, including the ability or aptitude to learn technical applications quickly
Strong in Microsoft Excel
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
1-2+ years as an Asst. Merchandiser, Buyer or equivalent
Travel required to visit existing stores, new store openings, conventions and seminars (5%)
