Footwear Head of Design – Pro Skateboarding & Surf / Color & Trend: Become the Newest Member of the Vans Family

As the Footwear Head of Design for Pro Skateboarding, Surf Mens and Surf Womens, you will oversee the themes, color, material and graphic direction for these categories. You will demonstrate your visionary ability to keep the brand moving forward by working with both Business Merchandisers and Product Designers, and provide global inspiration, direction and designs each season. Your management skills, passion, experience, and design knowledge will support and leverage the company's continual quest to innovate and elevate design in these categories.

How You Will Make a Difference:

Mentor and manage footwear designers in all aspects of the design process. Travel for market research, build inspiration boards and set overall category design direction. Promote cross functional work and maintain strong working relationships with footwear Developers, Merchandisers and Product Designers Responsible for ensuring product success and category business strategy; interprets international/domestic concepts and trends as it relates to the market demands and company image. Responsible for knowledge of cost components and ability to design that hit margin targets. Fully responsible for identifying and executing opportunities for process improvement through their design team. Responsible for presentation assets for design reviews. Adhere to all calendar dates.

Skills for Success:

Years of Related Professional Experience: 8-10 years

Educational/ Position Requirements:

  • A degree in design or related field and a minimum of 3 years general management experience in the Footwear color, graphic, material design and creative direction field or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Experience working in the Skate and Surf industry

Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:

  • Travel by air and overnight, 2 international trips lasting 7-14 days, plus 2-3 domestic trips lasting 2-4 days

  • Lifting and/or bending 10 pounds amount of weight.
