Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Facilities Assistant is to perform a variety of maintenance, construction, equipment installation and service support for a facility area and its tenants.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and constructs physical structures using hand and power tools. Activities involved include painting, welding, roofing, plumbing, finish carpentry, grounds maintenance, and limited electrical HVAC systems work. Also involved is work with steam presses, air lines, steam lines, vacuum pumps, masonry, concrete, asphalt, air compressors, Kemco water systems, Braun washers and installation or repair of floor coverings, walls partitions, doors, locksets, and windows.

  • Installs, rearranges, and maintains office equipment and furnishings, plant equipment, standard office furniture and systems furniture. Makes minor repairs to office equipment and card key alarm system.

  • Provides security watch for building during opening and closing, control alarm system, responds to alarm calls on 24-hour basis. Inspects and maintains fire extinguishers, emergency lights and fire protection systems. Assists with building, fire and insurance inspections to ensure conformity to codes.

  • Performs various service support tasks such as moving files, destruction of classified materials, setting up class and conference rooms, moving equipment or other material, jump-starting cars, snow removal and occasional shipping and handling duties.

  • Uses personal, leased or company-owned vehicle to pick up or deliver supplies, tools, materials, etc.

  • Supervises work of part-time temporary employees during construction and other projects.

  • Performs these and other duties as instructed by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electricity, carpentry and heating and cooling equipment is required to determine appropriate methods of handling maintenance requests

  • Knowledge of English, grammar, and math, including decimals and fractions; ability to use rulers, measuring tapes, voltage and amperage meters, various electrical and mechanical controls and devices required

  • Knowledge in use of charts, tables, drawings, schematics, specifications, and reports where interpretation is required
