Job Description

The Smartwool (SWL) Finance Analyst supports the forecasting, management reporting, budgeting, and profitability analysis functions of SWL. The role is a key support position providing analytics, reporting and business intelligence for the Sr. Manager of FP&A to help drive business decisions against the strategic and financial goals. In addition, he/she will provide analytical support to cross-functional teams to help drive the company’s operating performance and financial returns. He/she will also drive change management through process, systems, and reporting improvements to provide more transparency and visibility into current and future financial results. EEO


  1. Strategic Plan, Annual Operating Plan, Forecasting and Reporting Support the monthly forecast, monthly reporting and analysis, annual operating plan and strategic plan processes. Provide variance analysis and determine cause of change. Provide support to respective revenue driving regions for monthly forecast, annual operating plan and LRP (Intl Distributor, Canada) Provide support in managing operating expense budgets and monthly forecasts (Creative Marketing, Consumer Engagement and Communications, Canada, Intl Distributors, Customer Fulfilment, Product Development and Operations) Support International Smartwool business teams (Canada) with FX analysis and the reporting/planning associated with Budget, Forecast and LRP. Prepare PPV and AGM analytics for the monthly forecasts and annual budget.

  2. Financial Analysis/Business Intelligence Support of special projects and benchmarking analysis to identify areas of improvement Track and monitor against our capital investments Provide margin analytics for Finance approval associated with potential discount programs Support use of Financial systems - SAP and BPC Leverage Cognos tool to prepare analytics - support growth initiatives by providing analytical support and partnering with cross-functional teams (primarily Marketing, Canada, Intl Distributors, Product Development and Operations) Ad hoc KPI projects

  3. Seasonal Margin Review Process Support overall Seasonal Gate Review process partnering with Product, Sales, Marketing & Operations teams Provide analytical support to Product & Operations for comparison to margin targets and help to identify margin opportunities. Drive accuracy of margin projections for planning purposes Assist Sr. Mgr FP&A with preparation of presentation for Gate Reviews in partnership with Product & Operations for approval from SWL leadership team Maintain margin analysis tools including cost, wholesale, and retail pricing Use PLM with ability to export and manipulate date Partner with Operations to determine duty, freight, and overhead estimates. Load rates and validate standard costs in SAP annually. Perform periodic variance reviews to determine sources of variances and work with other teams to resolve such inventory cost variances in future.

  4. Process Improvements and Special Projects Support Finance department through automation of processes where applicable; Management of current automated tools.


  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other quantitative discipline preferred or equivalent work experience

  • CPA preferred

  • 2+ years of relevant business experience

  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills

  • Extensive experience with Excel required

  • Experience with Cognos or similar BI tool, SAP, BPC and PLM preferred

  • Strong communications and presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills

  • Ability to travel as needed
