Job Description

Position Summary:

As a Quality Assurance & Product Safety Manager, you will be responsible for resolving finished product and material issues. You will provide direction to operations, product supply, product development, supply chain, planning and sales with root cause analysis, corrective action plans, product mitigation plans, data collection and communication regarding all incidents. The job provides technical problem solving tools and techniques associated with quality, material and product safety management activities. You will be responsible for establishing related standards, procedures, risk assessments and associated training.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage day to day incoming quality complaints across footwear, apparel and accessories; identify root cause of all issues, ensure sufficient and timely corrective action is documented by global sources, analyze risk to inventory and/or current production, communicate financial implications of quality issues and manage cost negotiations with global sourcing offices and vendors. Issues include workmanship, performance, chemical, mechanical, material, etc. quality issue.

  1. Manage reporting to clearly outline all current quality issues, inventory position, financial risk, corrective action, factory scorecards, anticipated resolution

date, etc. Preparedness to address all issues and provide updates as needed verbally.

  1. Indirectly manage, train, and focus incoming audits at all global warehouses and follow up as necessary to ensure continuous improvement across the supply base. Follow up as

necessary with product development and product teams to ensure any highlighted issues from the production team are discussed and resolved.

  1. Lead and manage internal quality and safety product reviews and manage feedback to global sources, inform and educate internal product creation teams on all current quality issues and identify trends to ensure continuous improvement.

  1. Partner with both western hemisphere and international based quality and sourcing teams to lead brand based calibration exercises seasonally to ensure standards and expectations are consistent across brand and sourcing facilities

  1. Manage chemical, physical, and performance standards and testing with global internal teams to include but not limited to Product Development, Legal, Responsible Sourcing, Manufacturing, etc.

  1. Maintain and distribute the Timberland Quality Assurance Manual, PS Manual, Labeling Manual to ensure an understanding and adherence at all global sources with a focus on continuous improvement procedures.

  1. Assist generating leather specs, leather standards, regional leather sources for the DR, contributing in the Leather Working Group, developing country specific labeling requirements, and special projects as needed

Job Requirements:

Years of Related Professional Experience: Bachelor’s degree; certification by the American Society for Quality a plus. Pursue and update certifications as required e.g. Satra, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.

Educational/Position Requirements: Minimum of three years of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Product Safety experience in footwear, apparel, and accessories.

Management Experience:

Skill=:

  • Exceptional analytical, diplomatic and creative problem solving skills in a project management environment

  • Efficient, professional and timely written and oral communication (English), as well as the ability to present information and recommendations to various levels within the organization typically using Power Point.

  • Ability to lead, direct and influence a direct team as well as cross-functional and cross-cultural partnerships.

  • Ability to develop and implement strategies and initiatives with a sense of urgency.

  • Footwear, leather, apparel and accessories manufacturing and Product Safety experiences

  • Quality Assurance tools and techniques such as Lean, Six Sigma, TQM, problem solving, etc. experience.

  • Must be highly organized with the ability to develop resolutions and drive issues to closure (both tactically and strategically).

  • Ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Strong knowledge of continuous improvement principles and techniques in manufacturing and quality.

  • Above average PC skills including Excel, Word, Access database, and Power Point management.

Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:

Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Ability to lift 20 to 30 pounds e.g. cases of product. Work in a hands on environment such a manufacturing or warehousing
